Re: Ultrasound Tuesday, what should I expect?From: Robin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 30 Oct 1999 08:33:19 -0500 (CDT)
Erin, The ultrasound may be done in one or two different ways. The first is the ultrasound that is done externally. You have to fill your bladder so that your insides can be seen. It is only slightly uncomfortable in that your bladder is filled to capacity. The other type of ultrasound is the vaginal ultrasound. The probe is placed inside your vagina. Your bladder does not have to be filled for this one. Most practitioners will do both the pelvic and the vaginal ultrasound. At least that is what I have encountered with every ultrasound I have had. I've *never* have heard that if the ultrasound is left on you too long, it will burn you. Granted, I'm not a Dr. or medical professional of any sort, but I have had many many ultrasounds, and this has never once come up. I'm curious as to what the Drs./Medical professionals have to say on this topic. Good luck on Tuesday!!
