Painful Ovulation

I am a 26 year old who experiences painful ovulation. Briefly, my past history includes a pelvic abcess from peritonitis resulting from a perforated appendix two years ago. Since then, I have had terrible trouble with my periods and adhesions pain which plagues me 24 hours a day. My local doctor has put me on progesterone for the period pain which became intolerable at this time. Over the last few months, around mid cycle I have been experiencing very severe pelvic pain - almost like a contraction type pain that lasts around two days and keeps me awake at night. My doctor has told me not to be concerned about it, but I am. Is ovulation pain like this considered normal? Could there be something else wrong?
