Amniotic Band

The midwife at my ob/gyn practice told me that there was an amniotic band on my ultrasound at 18 weeks. It is high and not currently near the fetus or placenta. The fetus looks normal otherwise. The ob-gyn and midwife both keep telling me that it's nothing to worry about, but a net search and medline search suggest that all sorts of scary things can happen down the road. Can anyone tell me how likely it is that the baby will lose fingers, toes, limbs? Is there anything I can do at this stage to make that less likely?

Thanks!
