My suggestion would be to find the kindest, most understanding physician in town. Male OR Female! I happen to have always had male physicians and I like them. But the Most Important decision for you to make is to ask around and get a good reccmendation form your friends. Call the office and speak to his/her nurse and tell her/him about your concerns. Ask if Dr. so and so would be willing to have you as a patient with the understanding that you are scared stiff and need extra time. The suggestion of bringing someone is OK if it is OK with you. Most all physicians male or female have a nurse in the room while doing a pelvic. This protects Everybody...

I for one would rather have a complete stranger that will never remember me or the exam after I leave. But that is a personal decision made best by YOU!
