Re: Breast Cancer & Anti-perspirantsFrom: Barbara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 15 Oct 1999 13:39:06 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Candace, I am going to delete the long long list of reasons why deoderant causes breast cancer that you have attached to your orginal post. Any one that wants to read it can go back to your post. OK you have my attention here and I will hopefully give you some valid reasons why this is NOT TRUE! I have had breast cancer and I have researched and read and asked a million questions of all my physicians. I have never heard of this reasoning until today. Most breast cancers tumors are not near the lymph nodes. Mine was on the mid lower section of my breast. I have had the misfortune (perhaps) of knowing many women with breast cancer from a support group I belonged to and also on-line from a bc forum I use to be on. None of them had a preponderance of having their tumor on the inner side of their breast near their lymph nodes. The Internet is a wonderful place for accurate information about most medical problems and conditions but in the same light it is a breeding ground for unsound, unproven, dribble. Well as you can see I am a bit upset over this newest earth-sharetering information. We must never believe anything that has no basic of fact that we come accross on the net. Believe me I would have been on to this one in a flash if it were true. I have a family member that is a breast cancer surgeon and I do think he would have warned all members of the family to stop shaving under our arms if there was even the slightest chance that this is true. I would strongly advise you to teach your step-daughter the importance of early mammograms, self exams of her breast and yearly visit to a gyn. I would not frieghten her but I would stress the importance of good medical care during her lifetime. Now if you want to think about "Stress" as a posible cause you just might get me in on the discussion. But at least many of the leading physicians of the world agree on this as a pre-cursor for many of the causes of things that happen to people because of a break-down in the immune system. I hope this helps you. Barbara
