Perimenopause can have varying and not necessarily consistent levels of hormones. These "strange" levels are not so strange.

Birth control pills are a reasonable option for many women with variable estrogen levels and have been shown to potentially reduce osteoporosis and other states associated with decreased estrogen levels.
