Re: Who is in charge of my medical care? From: Barbara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 9 Oct 1999 17:44:21 -0500 (CDT)
I don't know if this will work for you or not, but when I broke my leg in 4 places last year and my PT ran out and I was still not able to walk my Otho-doc told me to call my insurance company and tell them I was going to call the State Insurance Board and contact my lawyer. Needless to say I didn't have to do any of it! I was very sweet when I called the Insurance Co. told them my delima and said I felt I had no choice left except to take these steps. Well I wasn't actually taking too many steps at the time.... :-) They gave me extended coverage and were vey nice about it. I don't know if this will work in your case or not. Why not speak to you physician and see if he/she has any suggestions for action. Second opinion etc. This is why IMHO we as consumers need a Patient Bill of Rights. It puts our physicians in a terrible position as far as treating us goes and puts us at the mercy of someone that hasn't even seen us as a patient. Perhaps you could contact your US Representative as this is a Hot Topic on Capital Hill right now. I do hope you find some avenue of relief in this situation. I don't think too many women run to the doctors to have a hysterectomy they don't need. Barbara
