Depending upon the type of cyst. Clear cysts usually don't cause a
problem. Dermoid cysts have caustic material that can cause immense
scarring if not thoroughly washed out. Cancerous cysts, if ruptured,
may change the prognosis (there are disagreements about this last
point).

Scarring can occur from surgery even if there was no rupture.
