Dr. Marchbein,

Following up on what you said below about 'depending on whether the cyst ruptures during surgery', what are the implications of an ovarian cyst rupturing during surgery? The reason I ask is that I had an ovarian cyst removed years ago and it did rupture during surgery (I have the operating report). After a recent myomectomy, I am told I have scarring around this ovary. Can this scarring be related to the ovarian cyst rupturing during the previous surgery? Thanks.

Susan

Out of work, about a week.

Best to ask the surgeon.

Depends on the type of cyst, whether it ruptures during surgery and whether there are other undiagnosed problems already there. On average, it should be no problem.
