Re: Hysterectomy BashingFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 2 Oct 1999 08:56:52 -0500 (CDT)
> >-- >Like Barbara, I agree that there are some alternatives to hyst. I see a lot of women each day that have had hysterectomys for no other reason than they were tired of having periods and they were out of the baby making business. It disturbs me to see unecessary surgeries carried out. BUT.... there are many conditions that warrent a hyst. When conservative (non-surgical) methods of treatment have been exhausted, and the next alternative is hyst. the woman, her partner, or family (or whom ever she relies on as a support system) and her doctor need to discuss the subject at length. The women should ask questions. I have said this on countless other occasions, WE are responsible for our own health. We rely on doctors, nurses, and others to assist us, but we are ultimatley responsible for our decisions. Second oppinions are always a good idea. There is a wealth of information out there.... USE IT. Frostymom, you sound like a very intellegent, secure woman. I wish you the best with your upcoming surgery. Based on your posts to this site, I feel sure that you have chosen the route best suited for you and your needs. Best Wishes, Jeannie C., R.N.,B.S.N
