Leaving the cervix may have advantages with sexual satisfaction as well as help maintain support for the vagina by having support ligaments which go to the cervix, remain attached as before the hysterectomy.

View points differ. Some practitioners believe vaginal is superior, whether there are adhesions or not. A majority seem to believe that with adhesions from endometriosis, the abdominal route gives better exposure and a lower complication rate.
