I've had the same experience with a shy ovary. Because of the way I'm built, my left ovary sometimes seems to "hide." The problem also seems to be operator-related. That is, in two series of about 12-18 daily transvaginal ultrasounds, one of six GYNs consistently had trouble locating the left ovary. Another located the ovary, but did an exceptionally uncomfortable scan each time in order to find it. Repeat scans done the same day by another doctor located the ovary with ease. Once, the doctor recommended a pelvic ultrasound to locate the ovary, but I declined, having a transvaginal by a different operator instead.

I also have noticed a difference in ease of finding the ovary when I was not constipated. So I would offer two pieces of advice: first, get plenty of fluid and fiber prior to your next ultrasound; second, if the first person doing the ultrasound is unable to locate the ovary, ask if a second person is available to try at that time. Always worked for me!
