Re: question about prometriumFrom: Bobbie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 28 Sep 1999 22:20:46 -0500 (CDT)
About three weeks ago, I stopped taking Prometrium for the same reason. Even my small children noticed the weight gain. In addition, I also had stinging in both legs. I stopped on the 7th day. My doctor called the water retention and stomach distention PMS and said I wasn't 20 anymore. He couldn't explain the stinging. I'm off progesterone this month, but I told him I wanted to go back to the suppositores if I have to have progesterone again. I used the suppositories after a miscarriage because he thought I might be deficient in progesterone. The two months I didn't get pregnant, I had terrible headaches, cramps and heavy bleeding with my periods. After I got pregnant, I didn't have any problems with the suppositories. I used them until my 16th week. The suppositories are expensive, messy and have to be compounded by a compounding pharmacist but they are really natural. Prometrium is supposed to be natural too, but my body seemed to react to it as an invader rather than a familiar inhabitant. I told my docter it couldn't be completely natural because it is peach-colored. I have several friends who have also had progesterone supplimentation for pregnancy. Two of my friends who had had multiple miscarriages carried to full-term with progesterone suppliments. They were also the recipients of much prayer, so how much credit the extra progestin gets, I don't know.
