Re: Endometriosis/LaparoscopyFrom: Jean (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 28 Sep 1999 13:02:44 -0500 (CDT)
Hello Julie: I read your previous post and thought I would offer my experience and comments. I had a diagnostic laparoscopy about 2-1/2 years ago (for endometriosis). It is the only definitive way to diagnose endo. As far as I know, it is always done under general anaesthesia. I had no problem with the anaesthesia, nor with the recovery. I went into the hospital in the a.m. and was out by about 3:00 - very drowsey, but fine. I personally did not find it uncomfortable at all - except for some pain in my shoulders, of all places! I was told that this was due to the gas which is used, and it only lasted a day or two and then I was fine. My endo was extensive, as was suspected, so my lap was simply diagnostic. They can, however, remove endo "while they are in there", as well as do many other procedures, yours included. The endo would continue to get worse if not treated; I suspect that if you are not having any symptoms it is unlikely to be endo, unless it is very "mild". I can't really offer too much more info on your cyst, hopefully someone else here will offer some advice. Cancer is a very scary thing, but I think/hope that if your doctor suspected it he/she would surely discuss this with you beforehand. Hope everything goes well for you! (you can repost your questions with the word "repost" in the title; sometimes questions may be overlooked). Regards, Jean
