Painful IntercourseFrom: annie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 23 Sep 1999 12:50:46 -0500 (CDT)
I am a 40 year old white female that has been having pain with intercourse, unexplained "contractions" and increasing stress incontinence for the last 6 years. (All sypmtoms started started soon after a miscarriage (1993) that lasted almost 2 weeks with no medical intervention) I have seen several doctors and they can find no explaination for these problems. Symptoms: with penetration there is a feeling of hitting bruised areas deep inside, sometimes causing severe cramping - similar to contractions during labor (this can last from 15 min to 3+ hours)This pain runs from slightly right of my naval diagionally through my abdomen ending slightly left of my tail bone. During this time, it feels as tough everything inside is trying to come out. This also happens without intercourse. No specific time of the month or activity. Tests: I have had Lower GI studies, IVP, CAT Scan, Ultra Sound (regular and Trans Vaginal) Laproscopic Exam, and Hormone Level Testing. Results: All normal results although the regular Ultra sounds show a small area surronded by fluid causing me to be asked if I could be pregnant (this has happened on all three u/s nothing showed on the two trans vag) No Endomitriosis or PID has been found. Small Overian cysts were seen on the laproscopic exam (1994) "Treatments" have included Depo Lupron injections, Birth Control Pills, Hormone Replacement Therapy, "Shot Gun Therapy" for infection (Flagyl), exercises for Round Ligiment stretching and consults to Psych Clinic, where I have been told "wrong symptoms for a psychological sexual problem go back and fight with the medical doctors," offered hypnosis and put on Prozac (told that it will not help the pain, but atleast you won't care that it hurts!) I currently use no meds other than herbs and vitamins and an occasional pain pill. The new treatment is to be Flexril in an attempt to see if the "contractions" are caused by spasam and another psych consult with a female Dr who specializes in sexual abuse cases for the "bruised pain." (I was never sexually abused - but they can't believe the pain I feel is real and not in my head) It was also suggested that I attempt to reseach this problem at the library, I chose the internet. As this has progressed, my desire for physical contact (sexual or otherwise) has gradually become non existant. My testoserone level has gone from 63 to 168 in the last year which should cause the exact opposite reaction in my libido. This part I will believe has a psychological origin, but that I believe was brought on by the years of physical pain. Any ideas or help in figuring out where to go from here would be GREATLY appreciated.
