Accidental cutting of Epigastric arteryFrom: Caroline (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 21 Sep 1999 12:55:34 -0500 (CDT)
I recently (17th Sept) went in for a 15 min exploratory laparoscopy to check out a small cyst. Unfortunately during the procedure my epigastric artery was cut and retracted into the muscle. By the time the artery had been located and mended I had lost a lot of blood, my HB fell to 5 and I was becoming hypothermic with very low blood pressure. There was concern as to my well being. I have now been discharged and have been told that it was like having a c-section (without of course the preganacy or baby!). Having been under the impression that i would be back at work within two days I am now told to stay off for two weeks and told to take it easy but feel that it is hard to get hold of information on what i can /cannot do (I am generally very fit and want to get up etc). Do you have any suggestions as to internet resources or general guidelines. I am on percoset and will return to GYN this week to get sutures removed but have conflicting advise on how much activity is safe?
