vaginal surgeryFrom: April (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 12 Sep 1999 18:55:45 -0500 (CDT)
I have looked everywhere for information about vaginal surgery which would make the vaginal opening larger and havent found anything yet.I was wondering if anyone has had this done or if anyone has information on this procedure.I do know there are a lot of couples that have unconsimated marriages and they are diagnosed with psychogenic vaginismus where the vaginal muscles tighten preventing penetration. Most doctors will tell you that the vagina will stretch to accomidate any size penis. This was not my case. After marriage it was impossible for my husband to penetrate me,it did not hurt but it was like a brick wall. When I went to a doctor he said that the vaginal opening was so small that he could not even check me with the speculem and could not even insert one finger. He sent me to a GYN who also said the same thing. He suggested surgery to open the vagina a little bigger.I believe he called this procedure Perinal plasty,he cut the perinial to make the opening a little bigger. After 6 weeks when I went back he told us that he would have to do surgery again because he didnt open it up enough. He said the he should be able to insert 2 fingers easily and he couldnt do that. After the second time it finally worked.I have no space at all between the rectum and vagina where he cut, which I am only about 80# so theres not that much room there anyway. But I have been searching the web to see if there is anyone else with this problem.I have a friend who has a 2 year old daughter and her vaginal opening is closing up.Not from not being kept clean, but the doctor told them that this sometimes happens and I was wondering if that may have been what happened to me.Any information you can give will be greatly appreciated.
