I'm sorry to hear about your job loss. I can't help you with your pain, but I can't help but feel that things will work out for you in the future. Hang in there, and keep being assertive with your doctors! Stay optimistic, and you've won half the battle! Readers of this list should know that full-time employees who have been working with the same employer for more than a year may be eligible for Family Medical Leave (FMLA) if they have a serious medical condition. Family Medical Leave entitles employees up to twelve weeks (unpaid) leave per year without fear of being fired or demoted. The leave can be taken intermittently. There are some restrictions on who can get FMLA, and what size organizations have it, but you can speak with your human resources/benefits people to see if you qualify. I'm not sure about what the employer's responsibilities are in notifying you of its availability, but I know from experience that most organizations will wait for you to ask about this. Good luck! Laura
