HPVFrom: Barbara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 4 Sep 1999 18:02:12 -0500 (CDT)
I was recently diagnosed with mild cervical dysplasia, presumably caused by HPV. My doctor did not discuss the ramifications of what to do about past and future sexual partners. Frankly, I would be too uncomfortable to talk to him about it anyway but it remains a concern of mine. I realize that it is ultimately an individual decision, but I'm wondering if there are any guidelines or recommendations about this. According to the CDC 'examination of sexual partners is not necessary'. Since the risk is primarily to the woman and the virus is relatively common, it seems their position is women need to take responsibility for their own health and get regular PAP smears. If anyone can give me any personal or professional insights, I'd appreciate it.
