cervical dysplasiaFrom: Dorothy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 25 Aug 1999 18:25:42 -0500 (CDT)
I have recently been diagnosed with mild to moderate dyplasia. I am 26 and have had one previous pregnancy (vaginal delivery). When the test results were returned, my family doctor explained a variety of possible procedures to eliminate the dyplasia. She also mentioned that pregnancy would eliminate all abnormal cell growth and expressed the opinion that if I wanted to have other children, it might be a better option to have them before any other procedures to get rid of the dysplasia. My partner and I have discussed having other children (before this diagnosis) and are now thinking that we might try in the spring 2000, after I have been off the birth control pill and taking folic acid for a period of time. I am wondering if anyone could give me any more info. on this subject as I am not sure what I should be doing at this point and also because I do not know much about different procedures that are avilable to cure this disease. I am reluctant to make any decisions until I have more information about this topic, specifically what are the procedures and their side/long-term effects (ie: getting pregnant afterwards) and what are the dangers, if any, in getting pregnant before treatment. Thanks
