Hiya Gael! Thickened Endometrium is a build up of the uterine lining that is shed during your period. So...since yours is thickened, that explains your heavy periods. I have had Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (which is what the Dr.'s call it when we bleed really heavy/or for an extended amount of time)for 7 months now. My Dr. explained to me that when a woman is overweight (which I am) that the fat tissue also produces estrogen which leads to the build up of endometrium and the heavy/prolonged bleeding. Usually, your estrogen level can be shocked back into behaving by using hormonal treatment, but when that doesn't work, many Dr.'s will do a D&C to both get rid of the excess endometrium and take a good look around/do a biopsy to rule out causes more sinister. There are further options if a D&C doesn't end the bleeding.

I hope this helps!
