Thickened endometrium??

What could thickened endometrium (seen on ultrasound) in a 47 year old woman who is still having regular periods mean? My MD wants to do a biopsy and possibly a D and C for the heavy periods.

Thank you. I asked before but got no reply. Thanks to anyone who can give me more insight into this. Everything else was normal, the heavy periods have been going on for several years. The CA125 was also normal.

Thanks again, in advance.
