Postpartum Menstruation Extremely Severe/Heavy, WHY?From: Alison (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 16 Aug 1999 16:50:34 -0500 (CDT)
I have a question, I delivered my second child 5/6/99 (@ 35 wks due to pre-eclampsia) and have since had two periods. Both have been incredibly painful and heavy. (Approx 1 pad/hr) My OB says there isn't cause for concern unless I go through 3=> pads/hour. He also stated it was normal to have heavier periods after having a baby. Armed with this info, I figured the first period was just going to be tough, now I've had two heavy/painful periods, equally insipid. These are so painful I am taking percocet (left over from a surgery) and those seem to only take the edge off. On a side note, I made it through the first 30 hours of pitocin induced labor without meds and I declined all pain meds after the vaginal delivery (not sure if that is much of an indicator of my pain tolerance). HELP! What is going on physiologically that is causing this? I have never had this type of period before, not even after my first baby (12 yrs ago). Will this subside or can I count this, along w/ the new stretch marks and even saggier breasts, as yet another badge of motherhood? TIA, Alison
