Hello Anne:

Just saw your post and wanted to let you know I had a fibroid problem similar to yours. I am 45 and last March I had many fibroids (37!) removed, also 2 ovarian cysts, endo and one endometrial polyp. I had severe bleeding for a year and a half, unpredictable periods and I had to have BC pills prescribed in order to control the bleeding. Well, the control was really elusive, because I knew I had to buy time in order to find a non-H solution for this problem. Local doctors ALL suggested Hyst, but I refused due to my own personal beliefs in this area. I almost took Lupron, but I didn't want to worry about hormonal side effects, and I was told that because my uterus was 20 cm (5 month pregnancy) and it looked like a "bag of marbles" it should be removed. Finally, after a year of intensive research (my chemical background did come in handy), I found the Institute for Alternative Medicine in LA which specializes in non-H options for non-cancerous conditions. I had the surgery and it was the best thing I had done for my health in years. I began normal 3-day periods within 2 months, and this in itself is a blessing. I also had my 31/2 month checkup back in LA - laparoscopic procedure - and everything was NORMAL! I mean I saw the videotape, just as the surgery video for that matter, and I was trying to find some scar tissue around the uterus and ovaries, but it was all CLEAR. So, my point is, you have many options short of H - why not check them all before you do anything drastic? BTW, the website with this info is drdeljuncojr.com, and if you need more details you can also email me. Also, my PPO insurance DID cover this procedure, called FAS (Female Alternative Surgery)as an out-of-network provider. So read on - Good luck and happy surfing!
