Re: vaginal smell after hysterectomyFrom: D.N. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 15 Aug 1999 17:27:54 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Andrea, I had a similar thing happen to me. Do you have any kind of discharge? Mine was kind of a gray color. Is the odor sort of fishy smelling? That can indicate an infection or granular tissue growth. I was first misdiagnosed by a nurse practitioner as having gardnerella (sp?). Gave me antibiotics and it did not help. Saw my doctor and was properly diagnosed as having granular tissue growth in the vagina. It needed to be treated by having a mustard-looking paste applied a few times. I can't remember if it is silver nitrate or not. Anyway, after that the discharge turned brown and black and I was told to douche with water and vinegar, which helps get rid of some of the discharge. Having the paste applied was a little uncomfortable, but not too bad. But having this done really cleared up the problem. Check with your doctor to see if you have an infection or granular tissue problem. I hope this helps you, good luck.
