Sometimes, a woman without a uterus is actually genetically a male; this condition is called androgen insensitivity or testicular feminization. The external genitalia are female, but there is no uterus. Testes are present, usually in hte abdominal cavity; these must be surgically removed to prevent cancer. Sometimes normal female chromosomes are present, but the vagina and/or uterus and tubes do not form properly (Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome). Normal ovaries are present. Kidney abnormalities are fairly common in this case. Surgery sometimes can be done to construct a vagina. The woman's eggs may be used in in vitro fertilization and implantation into a surrogate in order to have a biologic child. You should see a specialist (a reproductive endocrinologist is a good choice) to have a thorough work-up. Chromosome testing is vitally important.
