Quck pregnancy history. Miscarriage at 8 weeks (1989). Live birth, normal at 39 weeks (1990). Miscarriage at 12 weeks (1991). Live birth, pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes, induced at 39 weeks. Labor lasted 70 minutes. Had been dialated to 2 cm since 36 weeks. (1994). Live birth 35 weeks, preterm labor at 33 weeks. Fluids stopped contactions. Bed Rest Ordered. Dialated to 2 cm at 33 weeks. five hour labor with no intervention. Baby died from rare genetic disease at 5 weeks old.(1995) Live birth at 39 weeks, induced. Preterm labor at 30 weeks, dialated to 2 cm at 27 weeks. Hospitalized for two weeks. Magnesium Sulfate and Tributaline. Steriod for baby's lungs. Bed Rest at home with Tribulatine until 38 weeks. Dilated to 3+ at induction (1997). My question is whether or not this in a history of incometent cervix. My doctor has suggested that we consider a cerclage, but no one, including him is convinced that the dialation came first. Unfortunaetely no one is convinced that with all of the rapid pitocin labors that is isn't a damaged cervix that won'tstay closed. Could an incompetent cervix stop opening if complete bed rest is observed? Is it possible to dialate at the end of the second trimester or beginning of the first trimester for a reason other than an incompetent cervix? It seems that I always dialate to 2 and then just stop there. Also, in the 1997 pregnancy, the high risk specialist said I had a very short cervix and theat is was something I was born with. There is also a scar on one side of my cervix from an old tear. Thank you for any help in advance. At 13 weeks, we need to make a decision about the cerclage pretty soon.
