Natural vs Synthetic Hormones

Sorry if this has been covered elsehwere, but I've been inundated with the "natural is better" mantra regarding hormones. Is there any truth here?

If "natural" is preferred, I understand that Prometrium (micronized progesterone) and Estratab (derived from yams) are "natural" alternatives to Provera and Premarin, respectively. So if your doctor can prescribe the "natural" alternatives, why are online pharmacies advertising their own compounded "natural" hormone formulas? Is this all just marketing?

P.S. I know that Prometrium may be preferred over Provera because of the former's HDL ("good cholesterol") benefits.
