Fibroid optionsFrom: Alice (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 8 Aug 1999 01:24:55 -0500 (CDT)
Another here who has been diagnosed with fibroids, and I am confused about my options. I have been searching the web and have the following questions: 1. I have seen a procedure recommended over myomectomy as having special benefits; this procedure apparently removes the entire fibroid, the fribroid seedlings. Is there an advantage to this procedure over more traditional methods? Does this prevent the regrowth of fibroids? And what are the disadvantages? 2. Is there an advantage to me in the use of an argon laser in fibroid surgery vs electrocautery (or other). What is the prefered instrument used in excising a fibroid. 3 I already have two abdominal surgeries and wish to avoid further adhesions. Does the bathing of the organs with a special fluid during surgery reduce the risks of post-operative adhesions? 4. Does myomectomy incur the risk of large blood losses and blood tranfusions? 5. What other abnormalities can I expect to, due to the presence of the fibroids, necessitate additional surgery?
