Could you send me some info > on this my e-mail is abrown@pitsco.com . Thank youAnn Brown Hi Ann, There is no *cure* for PCOS but there are treatments available. Treatments vary depending on your symptoms and what you want - do you want to get pregnant soon, is weight loss an issue, etc.. Your doctor can give you a prescription to bring on a bleed (not a true period but an induced shedding of the uterine lining), you can try fertility meds beginning with clomiphene citrate (clomid or serophene), diabetic drugs for insulin resistance (Metformin, Rezulin, Avandia, and there is another one being tested called D-chiro-inositol), and low-carb diets for weight loss. Best advice - see an endocrinologist (or a reproductive endocrinologist if you are trying to get pregnant) and get your hormone levels checked. Most likely if you have acne problems you probably have higher than normal levels of testerone and/or other androgens (male hormones). Here are a couple places to do more research: http://www.ivf.com/pcostreat.html OBGYN.net Editorial Advisor Mark Perloe's website - excellent info on PCOS http://www.pcosupport.org/ The Official Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Website - lists local chapters of the PCOSupport Association, most current articles and research, online support, listing of studies, and much more. Good luck to you!
