Ophthalmic herpes during pregnancy

For the last five years I have been troubled by recurrent Herpes Sim plex keratitis and iritis. The eye has been relatively well controlled on Pred Forte and Flucon and there has not really been any herpetic infection for probably two years. The Iritis is the problem and the epithelium of the cornea tends to peel back sometimes and cause some irritation. I have for the past six months been using Betnasol drops once a day and have just changed to Flucon once a day but have had a flare up of the Iritis. I am at present back to BETNASOL six times daily. I would like to know if this disease could present a problem during a pregnancy. I was pregnant last year and the eye remained quiet except for a couple of iritis episodes which responded immediately to treatment. My baby was induced and my lab our very speedy. In less than 1 hr 20 minutes from induction to delivery my baby was born flat with the cord tightly around her neck. She was intubated immediately and resusitated but it was 20 minutes before she could be extubated and breathing strongly on her own. After two hours she began tonic clonic seizures and these continued for two days. There has been no seizures since but her muscle tone is low and her development delayed because of the tone problems. She is otherwise v ery well, alert and responsive. There seems to be plenty pointing to the delivery being the cause of the hypoxia but before I consider another pregnancy I need to be sure that the virus cannot present a problem. I have four other healthy children. I would appreciate any information I can get because for both emotional and practical reasons I feel it is important to have another baby. Many thanks. Maria
