Post TAH; Hormone Replacement ProblemFrom: Anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 27 Jul 1999 22:54:30 -0500 (CDT)
I am a 31 year old who 7 months ago had a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy, Right OOphorectomy, Burch Colpo Suspension(type of bladder suspension) and Posterior repair for pelvic prolapse with a grade 3 cystocele and grade 2 rectocele. Since my left ovary was left in, I had hoped to get by without hormone replacement. Two months post op, it was evident that I needed something more and was started on Premarin 0.625 daily. Symptoms resolved quickly. 3 months post hysterctomy, I developed another cystocele which quickly "stretched" to a grade 3 again!! Urethral support was still intact with no leaking; just urgency incontinence that wasn't there post op. Since having an anterior repair 3 weeks ago, I feel terribly hormone imbalanced! I am unsure if this is just post op depression or if 0.625 is not enough. How much hormone should a 31 year old take? Could my remaining left ovary become nonfunctional because of my current hormone replacement therapy? My next appointment isn't for 3 more weeks and I would like another opinion before my appointment. My dr. is sometimes known to be conservative. Thank you for your help.
