Colposcopy and biopsyFrom: Andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 9 Jul 1999 13:45:46 -0500 (CDT)
Right before I got pregnant in September of last year, I had a pap smear come back AGCUS. Before that I was treated for mild to moderate dysplasia with cryosurgery. I had 2 paps come back normal, then the AGCUS. When I found out I was pregnant, during my first prenatal checkup, I had another pap done. This one came back normal. Although it did come back normal my doctor wanted to do a colposcopy and a biopsy. I let her do the colposcopy, but refused the biopsy since I was pregnant and didn't want the chance of miscarriage. She couldn't find any abnormal cells whatsoever. I had my baby this past May and even though I had that normal pap smear result while pregnant, and she couldn't find any abnormal cells during the colposcopy, my doctor still wants to do the colposcopy and biopsy. Is this what most doctor's do? How common is it for a AGCUS pap to change back to normal the next time? Does a biopsy hurt? How long will I bleed? How long do I have to refrain from sex? Is there anything I can do to prepare for this procedure? Would appreciate any info. Thank you.
