I'm scheduled for a hysterectomy on July 15/99. I'm struggling with the decision regarding supracervical vs total hysterectomy. My main concern is with sexual function after hysterectomy, both orgasm and potential pain due to shortening (?) and/or scaring of the vagina with a total hysterectomy. I'll be having an abdominal hysterectomy because of a number of large fibroids - largest is 9 cm and I also have a suspicious (possible malignancy according to the MRI report) cyst on my right ovary. I was originally going to take Lupron to shrink the fibroids, but the discovery of a possible malignant cyst caused my doctor and I to decide on moving the surgery date up - so no time for the Lupron. I'd like to hear from anyone that has had a hysterectomy, either supracervial or total and let me know how intercourse and orgasm felt afterward.
