Although I'm not a doctor, I have had numerous UTIs, and I almost always had pain in that region. My doctor once explained to me that this pain was associated with bladder spasms that I was having from the infection. Advil usually helped, and as soon as I was on the antibiotics for a few days the pain subsided.

Best of luck with the sonogram.
