I am 45 and have a very large fibroid. I am experiencing absolutely no symptoms. An ob/gyn specialist has suggested surgery. Because of the size of my fibroid, abdominal surgery will most likely be performed. Since I am probably 5-7 years away from menopause, I would like to explore other options for treating my fibroid. The diet prescribed by Christine Northrup, M.D. in her book, Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom, is a method I would like to try or explore the option of drugs to reduce the size. Is surgery absoltely necessary in my case?

Instead of choosing majory surgery, I would like to "buy some time" and explore other options. My hope is that when I reach menopause the fibroid will shrink. The specialist has told me it will not shrink. It is hard for me to elect surgery when, at this point, I have no symptoms.

Thank you in advance for your feedback. I am trying to come to a decision I am comfortable with.
