Thanks, > >Jenn When the liver is not doing its job properly, some of the substances that are supposed to be dealt with, are not, and begin to build up in the body. This leads to itching as those substances build up in the blood and skin. It also leads to jaundice (yellowing of the skin) and icterus (yellowing of the "whites" of the eyes). Elevated liver enzymes alone are a giant red flag. Itching is common in pregnancy, and is usually not a medical problem, but combined with elevated liver enzymes is a serious concern.
