dysplasia and an HPV infection 26 years agoFrom: Sarah (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 25 May 1999 20:23:24 -0500 (CDT)
I have just had a colposcope and biopsy to examine and remove a sample of abnormal cells on my cervix. I have not as yet received a diagnoses from my doctor but my physician did indicate that this abnormal condition of my cervix was probably caused by HPV. I had HPV when I was about 20 and I am now 46. I have had regular normal pap smears between the ages of 21 and 45. I have been married for 22 years. I have never had any other sexual partner except my husband. He, however, has had an affair in the last two years. My question is--What is the probability that the present condition of my cervix was caused by HPV 26 years ago and what is the probabiltiy that this condition has been reactivated or caused the sexual activity my husband has engaged in. He does not use condoms. For my sexual health, should I insist he use a condom? Should I have other tests run? Many thanks for your help.
