Re: A New Barbar's Reflections is on the Home Page of Women and PatientsFrom: Jean (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 14 May 1999 18:00:27 -0500 (CDT)
BARBARA!!!!! First of all, I have to say that I for one have missed your "Reflections" - I enjoyed your insight, especially hearing about your feelings, your family and your life experiences....it's good to have a "Reflections" to read once again. BUT?????? Ohmygosh............you..................SMOKE????????????? That completely takes me by surprise! You just don't ... look.... like a smoker...whatever that means! LOL! I confess, I used to smoke (16 years ago), and for years since then I would sneak one once in awhile, and even, yes....BUY a package!!! I quit when I was first pregnant, but never really got back into the habit and could take 'em or leave 'em. I don't have any urge to even sneak one now. I guess I was just one of those lucky ones who could have one and then forget about it. I wish you, and all other smokers who want to quit, all the best and hope that you can "kick" the habit. I know it is not easy, as I see my DH trying again and again. PLEASE just keep trying! It will eventually work.....hopefully not before it is too late... SORRY, I couldn't resist - the soap box was right there in front of me!!! Once again, Barb - keep writing the reflections! And I hope you will someday kick the ol' habit. Come up to Canada - cigs are darned expensive here on the East Coast; maybe that'd be some incentive! lol Take care, Hugs, Jean ps Know how I quit (besides being pregnant)? (1) I began looking at smokers and thinking how absolutely r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s they looked when they smoked, (2) tootsie pops (better and less smelly than a cig); and (3) When I really felt I needed a cigarette, I would "pretend" to smoke - it sounds silly, but it really worked when I was driving or on the telephone. I would pretend to hold a cigarette between my fingers, take a long drag, and even blow the smoke out. It really worked for me. I had to make sure, however, that no one was looking when I did it! LOL
