Char,

Has she gone to her doctor (or other healthcare provider) for her postpartum visit? If not, she needs to and should bring up the bleeding then. This is not normal. Bleeding is usually somewhat heavier than a normal period right after baby is born and gradually tapers off over the next several weeks. The amount of bleeding is also dependent upon her activities. Carrying and growing a baby for 9 mos is hard work on a woman's body. We won't even discuss labor and delivery! She needs time to let her body heal and that means to rest.

Please encourage her to see her doctor. Excessive bleeding needs to be evaluated.

You are so sweet to want to help her. She is very fortunate to have you looking out for her. :)

Let us know how everything goes.

Sincerely, Mary Shoup Pregnancy & Birth Coordinator mary.shoup@obgyn.net
