Please some advice: I think my friend is dying of ovarian cancerFrom: Ann (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 5 May 1999 22:47:43 -0500 (CDT)
My 45 yr old friend had surgery for a "grapefruit" sized cyst (which I had last year and was fine) this Monday. She woke up with a total hysterectomy. I called her today and she told me that they found cancer in the tissue. Cancer in the cyst, cancer in her ovary, and cancer in the "fluid" (not sure what that means). She starts chemo in two weeks, to give her time to heal from the surgery. I am a wreck. Is my friend going to die? What does cancer in the "fluid" mean? Does she have more hope now that everything is gone? Please, give me some advice. I know each case is different, but not knowing is tearing me up. All I know about ovarian cancer is you die from it. Is there no hope? Should she transfer to a better hospital for treatment? Is this serious enough for that? The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is here in town. I know it's the best. Thank you for any replies, Ann
