Heavy bleeding can be hormonal or physical. The pill will help the hormonnal causes. Thyroid and Prolactin levels should also be checked. Physical can be fibroids, polyps, adenomyosis and, less frequently, cancer. This last possibility increases with age and in not common in women of menstruating age. A sonohysterogram is an office procedure that can replace the hysteroscopy ("insert a scope and look inside my uterus") and an endometrial biopsy can be done to help diagnose the hormonal problems.
