I'd like to know how much recovery time is needed after having a laparotomy done how long would I be required to have bed rest. I am planning a trip across the ocean soon after and need to how soon after the surgery I'd be able to fly out and how long I can stay away before reqiring some kind of post surgery check-up. I was told my incision would be about 4-5 inches and my largest fibroid is about 4-5 cm and located in the fundus, while the others are a bit smaller and located either on the outside of the uterine wall or somewhere where removal won't be difficult. How long after leaving the hospital can I expect to wait before going back to normal life?I also want to get pregnant soon after and would like to know how long of a wait I have before I can start to conceive again. One other question: What effect will the surgery have on my menstrual cycle, ie.if I have surgery about two weeks prior to my next period, will the following period still come as scheduled or will it get thrown off. I have a normal 28 day cycle. I would appreciate any help since I don't want to keep calling up my doctor.
