By definition, infertility is not diagnosed until after one year of unprotected intercourse -- but, if you are 35+, most docs will begin a work up after only 6 months.

In oder to help your doc help you, go in armed with the following info: 1. regularity of cycles and presence/absence of symptoms suggestive of ovulation like breast tenderness, midcycle pain, ovulatory mucus (clear, egg white consistency) 2. timing of intercourse in relationship to cycles 3. medications, including over the ocunter meds, that both you and your husband are taking 4. social habits like alcohol, drug, caffeine use (both of you), plus exposures to any potential toxins 5. bring basal body temps graphs if you've been doing htem, or report on results of ovulation predictor tests (you may want to do some ovulation predictor tests if you can, befoer your visit)

your husband should have a semen analysis (even if he has fathered children in the past) and you should do something (BBTs or ovulation predictor kits) to make sure you are ovulating. Where the work up goes from htere depends on your unique history and findings.

Good luck!

Sorry, but personal e-mails will not be answered, due to time constraits and the desire to spend as much free time as possible with my husband and baby daughter
