BTB on the BCP is quite common in the first few months as spotting only. This often passes after being on the pill for three cycles and is often a matter of perserverance. If you get midcycle bleeding it may be that you are not on a strong enough pill and need to increase the estrogen dose (in this example it is needed for it to have a contraceptive effect). Other cause include drug interactions and unrelated causes such as from the cervix. So if it persists you need to see your doctor and have a pelvic examination.
