Pill time / 28-21 day regimen

I know that the pill needs to be taken at the same time to be effective, but is it more of an issue of not taking a pill LATE? I mean, what if you take a pill early? Is that as risky at taking a pill late?

The reason I ask is because I started this pack at an inconvenient time and I want to change the time that I take it. If I start taking the pill 6 hours earlier, will I need to use back-up for a while after I change the time? Or should I just wait until "green week" (the placebo pills).

That reminds me, I usually get ortho novum 7/7/7-28, but the drugstore gave me 7/7/7-21. Does the absence of the placebo pills in this pack make a difference? Are the other pills the same? I didn't know if I should call the Rx store.
