i had a D&C on 4-7-99. i began bleeding on 4-16-99. the procedure was done because i've had abnormal uterine bleeding for about a year. here i am two weeks post-d&c, and i am already bleeding heavily. this is my 6th day of the cycle and i am still passing large clots. i have a vaginal infection from the procedure and am on antibiotics. today i went to the doctor and he put me on AUGESTIN 5 mg. i know nothing more about it than the fact that it is some type of progestrone (i believe that is what the dr said.) what i would like to know is how this is suppose to stop my bleeding. i have to take one per day for 10 days with my antibiotics. what does progesterone accomplish in a woman's body? he said that if i didn't stop bleeding by the time i get through with the medicine to come back. otherwise, to come back in three weeks. i have also searched the archives and can't find an answer to my question. what kind of side effects can i expect? the doc said something about going through withdrawl when i stop taking the pill. why? thanks, melissa
