adhesions, pelvic pain, endometriosis = hysterectomy?

I am 44 year old w/history of ruptured ovarian cyst, ectopic pregnancy resulting in emergency surgery to remove ruptured tube, emergency surgery due to endometriosis, 2 C-sections, and most recently, a laparoscopy which identified severe adhesions on bowels, bladder, tubes, ureter, etc. Three Dr.s have insisted that hysterectomy is necessary through a laparotomy (no other means) with a general surgeon to remove adhesions from other major organs. My questions are:

1. Is laparatomy with hysterectomy really my only alternative? I have tried DepoProvera with terrible results and am afraid of Lupron. Drugs won't help with the adhesions anyway, will they?

2. If I elect to have the surgery, will I receive any substantial benefits from selecting a surgeon skilled with a laser?

3. If I have the hysterectomy, should I wait 6 to 9 months to begin hormone replacement for the endo to "die out."

4. Is there anyone in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area who specializes in chronic pelvic pain?

5. Unlike many women with endo, the bleeding during my periods has decreased significantly, down to 1-2 days each month. Could this be the beginning of a natural menopause?

I really want this to be my last surgery. The pain is getting worse on a daily basis with increasing bowel and urinary tract problems, not to mention, extreme fatigue.

Can someone help with some suggestions?
