Re: hysterectomyFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 17 Apr 1999 12:49:46 EDT
Hanna, I can understand Dr. McIntosh's frustration with your posts and those of the others who continually imply that thousands of us are duped into having a major surgery which is unnecessary just because the doctor is money-hungry and we are ignorant of the other choices available. None of us is saying that those kind of cases do not exist. If you had an unfortunate experience, I am sorry for that. But, as someone else stated a week or two ago when this thread was rampent, I am tired of messages such as yours which imply that I was stupid, uninformed and the victim of a greedy doctor. I suffered with heavy periods and severe pain for years. I tried every type of medication known. My heavy bleeding resulted in the need for 8 units of blood----5 in January of 1996 and 3 in February of 1996. We tried every known medication and combination of them. When it was finally decided that it was time to throw in the towel and perform an emergency TAH/BSO, I was a very well informed patient who had tried every means available to help me. My problem, it turned out was adenomyosis and nothing but surgery would have helped me. To imply that all of us who have undergone a hysterectomy are stupid is an insult to our intelligence. I am sure my experience is similar to the majority of women who have had a hysterectomy. We are intelligent people who have asked questions and explored and tired every alternative available before consenting to surgery. Can we please end this thread? People are being insulted for no reason and, probably more importantly, woman who truly need the surgery are being frightened away from the one thing which will help them. Again, I am very sorry for whatever bad experience you had, but please let's allow this tread to unravel and rest. Diane
