Good Morning OBGYN.netters,

Well you all know me by now and know that I just can't keep these fingers from typing when I feel strongly about something..........

I agree with Dr. Mac and all the other posts about jumping in and jumping out without Really saying anything. TV sensationalism at it's Worst!

I have been thinking about this topic for the past day and have a few thoughts of my own to add here.

First and formost is the fact that not all the people that live in the world or in this case the USA have access to the level of medical care that our OBGYN.net physicians are trained to provide. So, with That in mind I am sure for some women hysterectomy Is the choice for many of their problems. If someone lives in an area where top notch gyns are not available what are they to do? Not all of us are fortunate to be able to ask and receive good sound advice and seek or get a second opinion. Perhaps these women don't even Know thay can do this.

In this case I think it's probally better to go the rooute of hysterectomy rather then do nothing at all. The new Laproscopic surgeries are wonderful but if your physician is not fully trained to do them they are not a good route to go.

Everyone can't aford to drive or fly to the best physicians around the country and so I think they do the best they can with what is available to them close to home. Thus, higher hysterectomy rates.

There is still a high poverty level in the USA and for these women choice is not always available.

Soooooo......the TV show Did send a false message and did not answer the Real question of WHY!

We women on OBGYN.net are fortunate to have a group of medical professionals that tell it like it is and are Not afraid to answer our questions and advise us. But not everyone has that privlege.

Education is the name of the game and the Internet will make tremendous changes in the near future but untill everyone has access to the knowledge we have there will continue to be areas of the country where the newest procedures are unavailable to them.

We are working on it Girls and together with the help of the OBGYN.net family we will make a difference it the days ahead.

Barbara a gal that had a hysterectomy 12 years ago and has never regretted it!
